Country-style pork ribs are a flavorful and versatile cut of pork that are known for their meatiness and tenderness. Despite their name, they are not actually ribs in the traditional sense, but rather cuts of meat taken from the shoulder or blade end of the pork loin. They may contain a bone or be boneless, depending on how they are cut by the butcher. The bone-in variety adds extra flavor to the meat during cooking.
Country-style pork ribs have a good balance of lean meat and fat, making them ideal for slow cooking methods that results in tender and juicy ribs. Whether you prefer a sweet and tangy barbecue sauce or a savory spice rub, these ribs offer a hearty and delicious option that is sure to please pork lovers.
I chose to combine both a savory spice rub and sweet and tangy bbq sauce. Country-style pork ribs are slowly cooked at a low heat with the spice rub – allowing plenty of time for the flavors to incorporate into the meat. After a couple hours of cooking, the country-stye ribs are lathered in a sweet and tangy bbq sauce and cooked uncovered to develop a caramelized exterior.
